The long history of Eupatoria, in the north west of the Crimea, started 2 600 years ago. The Greeks founded the ancient colony of "Kerkintis", the ruins of which one can visit today. When the troops of the Khan of Crimea invaded the region in 1275, a fortress and a medieval market town were built on the foundations of the ancient colony. The relics of this postponed epoch are still visible in architecture in the centre of the town. Yevpatoria has always been a multicultural city, where lived in harmony the Tatars, kara?tes, Jews, Turks, Russians and Armenians. You can continue your walk by discovering the religious buildings of Yevpatoria. The close location of the places of worship of different confessions in Yevpatoria, that is of the mosque, synagogue, as well as the orthodox and Armenian churches, has given to this district the name of "Small Jerusalem".

Kara?mes is the turcophone people that inhabited the cavern city of Chufut Qale in the vicinity of Bakhchisarai in the 14th century. In the 18th century kara?mes left the high platoes and went to settle in the other cities of the Crimea. The most important community was at Evpatoria, that explains the building of many kenassas of different size. Today, there is less than a thousand of kara?mes throughout the Crimea. Though kara?mes follow their traditions, their language and their morals of turcophone people, they have a very close link with Judaism. The feature of kara?tes is that they do not admit the Talmud, and consider Thora, that is five books of Moses, as being the one and only foundation of their religion.

Tarkhankout is the in the West of Crimea. His splendid nature leaves noone indifferent.
